Batam city is one of the islands lying between the waters of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore Straits. There is no literature that could be a reference from which the name of Batam was taken, which clearly is an island of Batam Island largest of 329 islands in Batam City territory. The only source which clearly states the name of Batam and can still be found to date is the Treaty of London (1824).
